What We Do?

Zakat is an obligation that needs to be discharged immediately, it is based on the idea of wealth circulation to alleviate poverty.

Baytul-Mãl will assist in this by collecting and distributing zakat and other charitable donations to those who are in a circumstance of need and hardship, primarily in the United Kingdom, and in line with principles of Islam. Our work will focus primarily on zakat.

Collection

Baytul-Mal will aim to collect & distribute zakat amongst those who are in need.  Many of the people in need who apply for zakat are in need due to financial difficulty. With the recent rise in cost off living in the UK, we expect the number of applicants to increase drastically.

Baytul-Mal Foundation will use all zakat donations for the needy and not for any aspect of running the organisation.

Here at Baytul-Mal we take on a level of accountability by ensuring all payments collected and distributed are recorded.

Distribution

Givers entrust Baytul-Mal with their zakat and we are committed to distributing it based on guidelines stipulated in Islamic Law.

We will :

  • Distribute 100% of your zakat donations that we receive.

  • Safeguard people who come to us for help, in line with our Safeguarding Policy.

  • Endeavour to distribute zakat as soon as possible with no delay (only delay will be in the administration process of determining who is applicable)

  • We will assess applications for Zakat from any eligible Muslim in need in the UK. We will check carefully that each individual applicant is making a valid application and that they are eligible for help. We will check their identity and financial situation. We will take a proportionate approach to risk and appreciate the difficult circumstances applicants are facing while implementing robust processes to honour the trust of the giver.

  • Ensure the identity of the recipient and anyone who submits an application is kept protected, this will only be known to the admin team who trained in safeguarding and are responsible for processing the applications and the distributing the funds.

Our aim is to distribute zakat to individual people and families who are eligible in the UK. We will not be collecting or giving any funds for organisations such as mosques and madrasas.

As stated previously, all donations that are collected will be given to eligible recipients and will not be used for administrative purposes. Baytul-Mal will apply for Gift Aid, and this will be used for administrative costs and towards any other activities as required. For this reason we encourage you to Gift Aid your donations if you are a UK tax payer.
